INTERN - CHORAL CONDUCTING AND NONPROFIT ADMINISTRATION
Emily Jenkins is just beginning her first season with the Houston Chamber Choir as the Choral Intern. She is in her first year of doctoral studies at the University of Houston studying with Dr. Betsy Weber. Previously, she was the Assistant Director of Choirs at the University of West Georgia.
At University of West Georgia, Emily conducted the Concert Choir, taught the Aural Skills sequence, Choral Methods and Materials, and Music Appreciation. She also served as a conductor of the Greater Atlanta Girls Choir, a nonprofit choral organization striving to empower young women through choral music. In Atlanta, she was as a choral director of middle and high school programs in Fayette County and Marietta City Schools. She received her Bachelor’s of Music Education degree from Mississippi State University with an emphasis in piano and voice studying with Dr. Gary Packwood, and her Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from Georgia State University under the tutelage of Dr. Deanna Joseph. While at Georgia State, she held the position of Graduate Teaching Assistant as well as the Assistant Conductor of the award-winning Georgia State University Singers.
As a singer, Emily has sung in a variety of professional choral ensembles and most recently sang with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and Lux Atlanta Choir.
