Always a highlight of the year, our 24th Annual Hear the Future Invitational Choral Festival brings together 11 area school choirs over two days to sing and learn together. Leading Saturday’s VIP Masterclass is Dr. Derrick Fox, Professor of Choral Music and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Creative Endeavors at the Michigan State University. On Sunday, we showcase three of our region’s finest choirs:

Saturday Choral Clinician, Dr. Derrick Fox

Bridgeland High School

  • Christopher Fiorini is in his 16th year of teaching, and is the head choir director for Bridgeland High School in Cy Fair ISD. Choirs at BHS consistently earn Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sight-reading, students consistently are placed into TMEA All State Choirs and the program has seen steady growth since Mr. Fiorini's arrival. The BHS Chorale was a National Winner in the 2022 Mark of Excellence Award from the Foundation for Music Excellence. The BHS Chamber Choir also has consistently earned an Award of Distinction at the American Classics Madrigal Festival and was named 1st runner up in 2023. Mr. Fiorini's choirs have also been named semi finalists for the American Prize and the BHS Chorale was named 1st Runn Up and 2024 Honor Choir for the Celebration of Excellence Festival in Houston. In 2023, Mr. Fiorini was award a state UIL Sponsor of Excellence Award. Before his appointment to Bridgeland, Mr. Fiorini spent 12 years at Langham Creek High School. While at Langham Creek, Mr. Fiorini brought the choirs to numerous Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest and has encouraged numerous students to pursue careers in music. Under the direction of Mr. Fiorini, the LCHS Chamber Singers have placed multiple times in the top 3 at the American Classics Madrigal Festival in San Antonio. In 2014, Mr. Fiorini was named as the Teacher of the Year for Langham Creek High School. Choirs under Mr. Fiorini’s direction have been asked to sing at invitational concerts at the University of Houston, Sam Houston State University, University of Texas Arlington, and Baylor University. In 2016 Mr. Fiorini’s A Cappella Choir sang as an invited choir at the TMEA annual convention and in the Fall of 2017 they were invited to sing with the Houston Symphony Orchestra.

    Originally from the small town of Palacios, TX, Fiorini has been a lifelong choral musician. While in high school, Fiorini was a member of the Texas All-State Choir, as well as a member of the TMEA Honor Choir from Palacios under the direction of Michael Petrisky. He attended the University of Houston where he was a member of the Concert Chorale under the direction of Dr. Betsy Cook Weber. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2007. While at the University of Houston, Fiorini performed with the Concert Chorale twice at TMEA and at the national ACDA Convention in Miami in 2007. He was also an alumni choir that traveled to Wales to perform in the Choir of the World Competition in Llangollen at the prestigious Eisteddfod.

    Mr. Fiorini remains active as a conductor, clinician, and adjudicator across the state as well as nationally. He regularly judges UIL Contests and also gets invited to clinic choirs both at area schools and as a clinician for TMEA at the All-Region level for high schools and middle schools. In January of 2020, Mr. Fiorini got an opportunity to conduct an Honor Choir with the University of Minnesota Duluth. Fiorini is also quite active with TMEA, helping out wherever needed from working on the facilities team to being a tenor section leader for the 2010 All-State Men’s Choir and the 2012 All-State Mixed Choir. In 2020, he had the privilege of serving TMEA as the TMEA All State Tenor Bass Choir Coordinator. Mr. Fiorini has also served as the Region 27 Chair for the Vocal Division and is currently the TMEA Chair for Area F. Fiorini is married to the love of his life, Rachel, and they have a spunky 3 year old daughter named Bryce.

  • Aubrey Erickson is in her second year as Assistant Choir Director at Bridgeland High School, where she teaches Concert Treble Choir and AP Music Theory. Before coming to BHS, she served as Assistant Choir Director at Cypress Woods High School for 3 years. She has taught all levels from Sub Non Varsity to Varsity, and choirs under her direction consistently receive Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sight - reading Evaluation. Equally passionate about music theory pedagogy, Aubrey was honored to present a session entitled "Harmonic Dictation in AP Music Theory: Sing, Hear, Write" for the 2023 Texas Music Educators Association Convention. Aubrey is also a private voice instructor; members of her studio have been selected to the Texas All - State Choir, advanced to all rounds of the All - State audition process, and gone on to pursue music in college. She enjoys serving Region 27 of TMEA in various roles, including Region Treble Choir Organizer for the past two years, and a member of the Pre - Music Selection Committee for the past four years.

    Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, Aubrey began her musical life as a flutist! She was active in her high school band program, and was a member of the North Carolina All - State Band. She started her college career as a flute performance major, but joined her school’s University Choir for fun, and discovered a passion for choral music that ultimately led her to change her concentration to voice and

    pursue a career as a choir director. She received her Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Louisiana State University, and her Bachelor of Music in Theory/Composition with Vocal Performance Certificate from University of South Carolina. Aubrey began her career teaching elementary general music in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Aubrey moved to Houston, Texas in August 2019. Out of all the places she’s called home, Houston is by far her favorite. She is a huge foodie and absolutely loves the Tex Mex, Vietnamese, barbecue, and especially crawfish here in Houston. She loves running, hiking, and biking, and has run three half marathons and a number of 5Ks and 10Ks. Her husband Michael teaches physics and coaches cross country and track at St. Thomas High School. She lives in the city of Houston with her 2 orange cats, Norah and Dandelion.

  • Dolores Noel is proud to be in her 4th year of teaching at Bridgeland HS. Mrs. Noel has taught both privately and publicly in the Houston and Austin areas for over 17 years. Mrs. Noel is an active professional performer and sings with Cypress Methodist Church. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX . While at SU she earned acceptance into Omicron Delta Kappa and Pi Kappa Lambda honor fraternities and sang with Austin Opera and The University Chorale. As a graduate of Jersey Village HS, Mrs. Noel is happy to return back to her roots here in CFISD. Mrs. Noel shares the stage with her husband and Kahla MS head choir director, Bradley Acree. They have two adorable sons, Teddy (5) and Tristan (1). She is thrilled to be able to make music with such wonderful, hard - working students every day!

  • Located in Northwest Houston, Bridgeland HS, established in 2017, is the newest high school in Cy Fair ISD. The choir program is made up of 7 ensembles and AP Music Theory and has roughly 230 students walk through the door on a daily basis to learn. Choirs at BHS routinely earn Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sight-reading Evaluation and consistently place students in Texas All State Choirs. The BHS Choir department has been named a National Winner in the Mark of Excellence, placed at the American Classics Madrigal Festival, been a semi finalist for the American Prize and will be the 2024 Honor Choir for the Celebration of Excellence Festival in Houston. The BHS Varsity Tenor Bass Choir also will be singing at the 2024 TMEA Convention in San Antonio as an invited choir.

Cook Middle School

  • True Hernandez is currently in her 7th year of teaching and 5th year as head director at Cook Middle School. During her time at Cook MS, the choir program has earned numerous first division ratings at UIL Concert and Sight - Reading Evaluation, as well Outstanding/Best in Class and superior ratings at various contests and festivals under her direction. Most recently, her Varsity Treble choir was named a 2022 Mark of Excellence National Winner.

    Ms. Hernandez earned a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis on All - Level Choral Education from Sam Houston State University in 2016. In 2021, she earned her Master’s of Music Education degree from Texas Tech University. Ms. Hernandez currently serves as the Region XXVII MS/JH Secretary. She was nominated for the Texas Choral Directors Association (TCDA) Young Director of Distinction Award in 2022.

    Outside of teaching, Ms. Hernandez serves as a staff singer at Memorial Drive UMC. In addition, she sings with two community groups, Texas Master Chorale and Casulana Women’s Choir of Houston. Ms. Hernandez resides in Houston, TX with her roommate Jessica and Jessica’s Frenchie, Benji. She enjoys traveling Europe, reading, and a good trivia night with friends.

  • Katie Arnoldy is in her 5th year of teaching, all of which have been at Cook Middle School. Mrs. Arnoldy grew up in Waco, Texas and began her choral music experience in middle school under the direction of Tammy Benton. She continued into high school choir under the direction of Jeff and Jannifer Rice. Mrs. Arnoldy received a Bachelor of Music degree from Texas Tech University (wreck'em!), under the music education studies of Dr. Carolyn Cruse.

    Mrs. Arnoldy was a student teacher at Cook Middle School under the direction of Stefanie Stephens, before becoming the Assistant Choir Director at Cook MS. Under her direction, the Cook MS Non - Varsity Treble Choir has earned first division ratings at UIL Concert and Sight - Reading Evaluation, as well as superior ratings at various contests and festivals. When she is not teaching, Mrs. Arnoldy enjoys playing with her German Shepherd Ranger and spending time with her husband. Mrs. Arnoldy is a member of the Casulana Women's Choir of Houston under the direction of Janwin Overstreet - Goode and Neena Taylor.

  • The Cook Middle School Choral Department is home to 250 6th, 7th, and 8th grade choir students. Cook MS has 5 choirs: 6th Grade Treble, 6th Grade Tenor, Tenor/Bass, Intermediate Treble, and Advanced Treble. Cook MS Choir consistently earns superior ratings at UIL Concert and Sight - Reading Evaluation and the CFISD Solo and Ensemble Contest. The choirs also routinely take home “Outstanding in Class” ratings in a variety of festivals and contests. Additionally, several students have been selected for the Region XXVII Region Choir, the TCDA MS/JH All - State Choir, and Honor Performance Series, with performances at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

    The Cook MS Advanced Treble Choir is made up of approximately 30 singers, all involved in a variety of campus and community activities, including National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, HOLA, campus athletics, church activities, and many more. Most recent accolades of this group include: 2022 Mark of Excellence National Choral Honors National Winner, 1st Runner Up in the MS division of 2022 Kemah Choir Days, and Best in Festival in the 2023 American Classic Bayou City Classic at Iowa Colony HS in Alvin, TX.

Bay Area Youth Singers

  • Nicole Daniel is entering her sixth year as a BAYS director after relocating from Dallas, TX in 2016. Mrs. Daniel received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Texas Tech University in May 2009, studying under Dr. John Dickson and Kathy McNeil. Following college, she ran her own voice studio in the North Dallas area for four years, held an associate director position at Forest Meadow Junior High in Richardson ISD and concluded her time in North Dallas as the head director at Renner Middle School in Plano ISD where she was named Teacher of the Year for 2015 - 2016 and lead the choirs through UIL with Sweepstakes ratings. She holds affiliations with the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Choral Directors Association. Currently, Mrs. Daniel is the head choir director at Victory Lakes Intermediate in CCISD and the proud wife to Aaron and a mom to her four children Noah (9), Sadie (6), Ella (4) and Asher (2).

  • The Bay Area Youth Singers is a non - profit community chorus serving children in grades 2 - 12 in the greater Clear Lake community. Eighteen years ago, BAYS was founded by retired choral directors Carol Barwick, Sally Schott, and Deborah Tidwell and chorister parents Kathy Hamilton and Mary Hines Lee. The choir's mission is to provide a high quality vocal music education by nurturing self discipline and a strong work ethic, exposing young singers to a wide variety of choral music, and developing healthy singing voices. In addition to a school year choral music program, BAYS sponsors a summer music camp serving students throughout the community and giving leadership opportunities to high school and college students. BAYS was chosen as the featured community children's choir at the 2021 TCDA convention, has sponsored more than 40 young singers selected as honor choir singers in TCDA and ACDA, and sponsors the Brenda Varvoutis Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship available to future music educators.
