Energy Corridor District presents safety tips for the holidays
Join the District on Wednesday, Oct. 27, for their quarterly public safety meeting to discuss holiday safety tips for businesses, employees, and residents in the District. Representatives from the Houston Police Department, Harris County Constable Pct. 5, and the Energy Corridor’s Public Safety and Security Patrol. The meeting will be held via Zoom from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

International Quilt Festival Houston 2021 this weekend
The International Quilt Festival Houston begins Oct. 28 and continues through Sunday, Oct. 31 at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas in Houston. Face masks or face shields will be requiredwhile in the vendor area, quilt exhibits, and classrooms. The Big Bounce America coming to Houston
The Big Bounce America, featuring the world’s largest bounce house, is set to inflate Houston on Friday, Oct. 29 - Sunday, Oct. 31. Along with the bounce houses is a new attraction, Sport Slam sports arena with goals, nets, hoops, and balls of every size and type. Houston Arboretum hosts annual Fall Plant Sale
The Arboretum hosts their annual Fall Plant Sale with a number of Texas natives that will be featured, including perennial and annual wildflowers (including milkweed), grasses, shrubs and trees. Some of the plants offered this year include Scarlet Sage, Swamp Sunflower, and Goldenrod. The sale begins Friday at 9 a.m. and runs to 4 p.m. The Saturday schedule is the same from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit their website at www.houstonarboretum.org the week before the Plant Sale for a full list of available plants. The Houston Arboretum’s popular Sip & Stroll outdoor event is taking on a spooky spin this Halloween. Walk along the Arboretum’s dimly lit trails where you may encounter creatures of the night. Your final destination will lead you to outdoor music and mingling with charcuterie and dessert provided by Cotton Culinary and beverages from Saint Arnold Brewing Company. Costumes are encouraged for this fun event for ages 21 and older. Each entry includes a charcuterie cup and chocolate dessert, a commemorative spooky glass and three drink tickets. Kendra Scott will offer an exclusive pop-up shop for attendees. The fun begins at 7 p.m. and runs through 9 p.m. with staggered arrival times. Keeshea Pratt Band headlines 8th Annual Musicfest at Willow Waterhole Greenway
Following last year’s cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the free Musicfest at Willow Waterhole Greenway returns Oct. 30 with an exciting line up of professional musicians and some of Houston’s finest food trucks, as well as a Haunted House Maze, “Trunk or Treat” and Mortals & Dogs costume contests. The feature band will be the Keeshea Pratt Band, the 2018 International Blues Challenge first place winners. Pratt’s performance will cap a day of live music at the venue, located at 5300 Dryad Dr., behind Westbury High School. Houston Symphony Principal POPS Conductor Steven Reineke is joined by jazz trumpet sensation Byron Stripling for a musical celebration of the life and art of Louis Armstrong, one of the most influential musicians in the history of jazz and popular culture in the United States. Tickets on sale to celebrate the season by ice skating in the heart of downtown
Discovery Green announces Green Mountain Energy Ice will open for the winter season beginning Nov. 12, 2021 through Jan. 30, 2022. Tickets go on sale Nov. 5 and are $15 plus tax per person. Price includes skate rental. Sales go to support Discovery Green Conservancy, a nonprofit that maintains the park and provides free cultural programming. Houston Chamber Choir presents Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem
The Grammy Award-winning Houston Chamber Choir, under the direction of Robert Simpson, presents its second offering of the 2021-22 season with Ein deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms in a concert entitled “To Bring Comfort,” presented in partnership with the Houston Methodist Center for Performing Arts Medicine (CPAM). The concert opens with the premiere of “Hymn for Strength,” and the choir will perform Brahms’ own four-hand piano arrangement featuring noted pianist Brian Connelly, Artist Teacher of Piano at the Shepherd School of Music. Soloists are soprano Cynthia Clayton and baritone Héctor Vásquez, distinguished members of the Moores School of Music faculty at the University of Houston. Two performances are set for Saturday, Nov. 6, 7:30 p.m. CT (in-person) and Sunday, Nov. 21, 2 p.m. CT (virtual release). The choir performs at South Main Baptist Church, 4100 Main St. in Houston. MFAH: “Hidden Hands: Untold Stories of the Object”

All is calm, all is bright with Zoo lights
‘Tis the season for TXU Energy Presents Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo! This year the Zoo will celebrate its 10th year as one of Houston’s most beloved holiday traditions. From Nov. 15 through Jan. 9, guests will take in the sights and sounds of the season as they stroll through the transformed winter wonderful. They will enjoy the beautiful Zoo grounds illuminated with earth-friendly LED bulbs and can sip their hot chocolate by one of the smores-making stations or walk through the 125-foot-long Infinity Tunnel of Light. Santa returns to his workshop to take photos with all the good little boys and girls. Afterlife Aspirations pit old against new for HIP Houston ensemble
Houston, TX, October 12, 2021 — Ars Lyrica Houston, the Grammy-nominated early music ensemble, mounts the first of two staged operas this season on a program entitled Eternity and the Underworld. Historically Informed Performance (HIP) is the hallmark of Ars Lyrica performances, which will be featured in Johann Sebastian Bach’s cantata Ich habe genug BWV 82 as well as in a contemporary opera by Jonathan Dove, L’altra Eurydice (The Other Eurydice) for historical and modern instruments.
