Season 4
Episode 1: Behind the Music | Daniel Knaggs, Robert Simpson & St. John Flynn
In the first episode of With One Accord Season 4 we welcome composer Daniel Knaggs and Houston Chamber Choir’s Artistic Director Robert Simpson, as they prepare the world premiere of Daniel’s new major work: “The Joyful Mysteries.” Join arts and culture expert, St. John Flynn, as he chats about our first concert of the season and learn about Daniel’s ideas behind the music!
Episode 2: Behind the Music | Franco Basili, Deborah Edquist, Robert Simpson & St. John Flynn
In episode 2 of With One Accord, our host, arts and culture expert St. John Flynn, showcases Houston Chamber Choir 2023/2024 Choral Intern Franco Basili, Member of the Uh Concert Chorale Deborah Edquist, and Houston Chamber Choir's Artistic Director Robert Simpson as they prepare the concert "Byrds of a Feather". Marking the 400th anniversary of the great composer’s death, the Houston Chamber Choir sings works by William Byrd and his contemporaries Thomas Weelkes, Orlando Gibbons, and Thomas Morely. Concluding the concert, members of the University of Houston Concert Chorale join the Chamber Choir in a rare performance of the celebrated 40-voice motet Spem in alium by Byrd’s teacher, colleague, and friend, Thomas Tallis.

This past December, Matthew conducted the Houston Chamber Choir on his piece, “The Lamb.” Matthew talks about the performance, the experience of being an intern for a professional choir, and about the exciting things Houston Chamber Choir is doing for students in the Houston community and beyond.

We're excited to welcome leading organist Daryl Robinson! Winner of both First Prize and Audience Prize in the 2012 American Guild of Organists National Competition in Organ Performance, Daryl currently serves as Assistant Professor of Organ at the University of Houston and Cathedral Organist for Christ Church Cathedral (Episcopal).
Episode 2: Education Spotlight | Michael Kessler
Houston Chamber Choir speaks with Pearland High School Choir Director, Michael Kessler. Michael received his B.M. in Music Education at the University of Houston in 2011, and has been teaching ever since. Choirs under Michael consistently receive superior ratings at UIL Concert and Sight reading as well as other state and national music festivals. Just recently, he had 22 students move on to the third round of Texas All-State Choir auditions!
