Designed to identify and celebrate the next generation of choral leaders, the competition will bring three finalists to Houston for an immersive experience working with the Houston Chamber Choir, one of the world's premier professional vocal ensembles and a Grammy Award-winning chorus. Throughout the final round, conductors will demonstrate their rehearsal technique, musical interpretation, and ability to inspire artistic excellence while collaborating with professional singers.
The competition culminates in a public concert on June 5, the capstone of the Choir's Journey's season, where finalists will lead performances in the magnificent acoustics of South Main Baptist Church before a live audience and distinguished panel of adjudicators.
Whether you are launching an international conducting career or seeking an opportunity to refine your craft with an acclaimed professional ensemble, the Houston Chamber Choir International Choral Conducting Competition offers an unparalleled platform to grow, perform, and be recognized among the world's most promising emerging conductors.

A panel of experts will evaluate the materials and will select three finalists. The announcement of finalists will take place on or before February 4, 2027. The finalists will receive repertoire packets at this time. Finalists will prepare a repertoire packet of approximately 75 minutes of unaccompanied music in a variety of styles. It will consist of three, different 25-minute programs of music, similar in length, difficulty, and stylistic variety, including languages, that each conductor will rehearse and perform. The drawing of repertoire will be at the start of Round 2. Conductors are expected to prepare all 75 minutes, but will only rehearse and perform one set.
